Dos and Don’ts of Blogging

I decided to come up with this post to help people understand what should be done and what shouldn’t be done when you are into blogging. This is very useful if you are a new Blogger on the block.

I will keep this topic straight to the point without wasting much of your time. So here it goes:

Blogging Community

  • Dos – Get along with other bloggers. Add them on Facebook or Orkut to develop a friendship and share ideas with each other. New bloggers need exposure to grow in a blogging community.
  • Don’ts – Do not get into brawls with other bloggers. I know that competition is good but not enmity.

Blog Commenting

  • Dos – Follow up on the comments that you do on other blogs. Share your inputs, both positive and negative opinions.
  • Don’ts – Using keywords is a dirty habit in the Name’s field. Try to use your name or website name and build up an image among the other fellow bloggers.Blogging rules

Updating Blog

  • Dos – Update your blog regularly with meaningful and relevant content. Be descriptive and elaborative where it is required.
  • Don’ts – Writing small articles for the heck of it is not going to help you. Unless your way of blog updating is that way from the beginning.

Blogging Domain and Hosting

  • Dos – Get yourself a decent host for your blog and a good registrar when registering your domain. Go for trusted companies like Hostgator – Best Hosting Company. I have been with them for a long time now and I am not changing them anytime soon.
  • Don’ts – Free Hosts are good but they are not plenty in numbers. Reliability is a big question and of course free domains are not of a great help unless you are really good at attracting visitor’s with your content.

Blogging Platform

Blogging Success

  • Dos – It is a continuous process and do not get deterred with initial failures. The factors which are under your control are basically your blog and its content. So take care of it and everything else will be in the right place sooner or later. You will be a successful blogger if you concentrate enough.
  • Don’ts – If you reach new heights within few months of Blogging doesn’t mean that you should stop working further. Do not be a sell out and hamper your growth. More success = More responsibility

Bloggers Identity (You)

  • Dos – Be helpful and reach wider audience in every single occasion of your blogging life. Blogging community is great and people here always return back the favors most of the time.
  • Don’ts – Creating a persona of a I-know-everything sort of. This is bad because not everyone possesses knowledge about everything. You are no exception, I suppose.

Blog Content

  • Dos – Refer to other articles across the web. Knowledge is free to circulate as long as it is not copyrighted lol.
  • Don’ts – Do not steal content from other’s blog without their permission. As a matter of fact you do not ask someone when you are stealing something. So you better don’t steal.

Blog Niche

  • Dos – Choose what you want to blog about before you register that nice domain that you have in your mind. Pick a category which you are comfortable with and which interests you.  Something which you can blog about till the eternity. Well at least for few months :) You should be able to write good content on your blog all the time.
  • Don’ts – Do not mix and match two different categories which are not interrelated at all. This is a bad idea and will affect both the Search Engines and the visitors determining what your blog is about.

Alright then, I kept my promise of keeping this topic to the point. I hope the information shared here will be useful to you when you are blogging.
