Google Pagerank (PR) is a concept developed by the search engine giant Google. It is their way of ranking each of your blog’s or website’s pages. Nobody knows the exact formula to achieve good Pagerank for sure. But there are many people on the Internet who claim to have cracked the code.
For a blogger like you and me all you need to understand about Pagerank is this:
- Number of quality backlinks pointing towards your blog matters the most.
- Use rel=”nofollow” in the url if you are posting a live link to page which you don’t trust or which doesn’t deserve to receive PR juice. It also refers to URL’s which are termed as “Paid Links”.
Pagerank 0 or N/A: Your blog or website is New. If it isn’t then you need to get more backlinks which are relevant to that of your blog. If you have done enough work and the blog is old then there is all possibility that it is penalized by Google.
Pagerank 1-3: You have worked towards making your blog noticeable on the web. Pagerank 1, 2 and 3 is quite easily achievable with less hard work. Be careful with what you link out of your site. As you are still a new blogger in search of success you can follow these tips: 5 Tips For New Bloggers
Pagerank 4-6: Your blog or site is very prominent on the Internet. Takes time to achieve this ranking. The average time that your blog or site takes to get to this level is close to 3 months and above.
Pagerank 7-10: More or less the authority sites gain this level of page ranking. It can take years of hard work plus a lot of money before you can reach there. A link from this part of the page rank sites can enhance your ranking automatically.
These are some of the easy ways to gain Pagerank with no money and less work:
- Comment on relevant blogs which offer the same content as your blog.
- Avoid commenting on a blog which is completely different from yours.
- Dofollow blogs help you get Pagerank very easily. So never miss out on commenting on these blogs. Some of the Dofollow blogs which I would like to mention are:
NPXP (The blog which you are in right now is a Dofollow blog !!)
You can find the rest of the blogs in this post: Best Dofollow Blog List
- Get listed in the free directories which are very popular on the web.
- Get a reliable host which has a very good uptime. I personally recommend Hostgator.
- Majority of the Clicks on a particular link off your blog or site through Google search engine is bound to get higher Pagerank. This is the reason why the homepage ranks better than the other internal pages of your blog.
- Use Social networking sites for blogs. This can easily help you get noticed by Google and other search engines.
- Do not buy paid links because Google frowns upon this and can get your blog penalized within no time.
- The golden rule to get easy backlink is to blog about something which interests your users to a great extent; this will definitely result in a link back to your URL. You can follow this to enhance your blogging method: Write Good Content Easily
All said and done I would like to remind you of one fact. The Pagerank displayed in the toolbar is a very old data and is not real time. Do not get bugged by the concept of Pagerank as long as you are getting decent number of visitors. Do note steal content from other blogs, Plagiarism is a crime.
As your blog gets older your blog will definitely get better Pagerank from Google.

I would disagree with you on this, “Avoid commenting on a blog which is completely different from yours.”.
A dofollow link is a dofollow link. Once you get a link, you would get some link juice. Are you saying now that if some with a bicycle site with a PR 5 want to give you link, you would say No??
Hi Zack,
That’s a very good question. I appreciate it.
I agree with the part where you mentioned that “a dofollow link is valuable no matter where it is coming from”. Well it’s okay as long as you get a couple of links from non-related sites. But not from a site which is completely opposite to that of yours.
1 relevant link = 10 non-relevant links
It really depends upon the type of site you have and the place where your linking is coming from.
