The 3 authors of the famous Spam blocking plugin for Wordpress are error, MarkJaquith, Firas, skeltoac. The best combination to counter attack Spam on Wordpress is obviously Akismet and Bad Behavior together.
I have had the same problem as the 1000′s of other bloggers on the Internet with Spam. I always had Akismet activated and in good condition but still a lot of human made spam was escaping the Akismet filter.
The I decided to try out Bad Behavior Spam prevention Plugin for Wordpress. It worked wonders for me, now I hardly worry about any sort of Spam on my blog!
NPXP is a dofollow blog, so it results in a lot of comment spam but Akismet and Bad Behavior do their job quite efficiently and lessens my intervention in order to segregate spam comments away from the good ones.

Yep even I’m facing similar problems. Will try bad behavior plugin!
Using two plugins for comment moderation alone. May be it will do good in terms of spam comments. But check for your blog loading time mate. Using many plugins will increase your blog loading time.
Akismet has serious problems with blocking regular, active commentators and a configuration setting that automatically deletes comments before you can even see them. I’ve written a bunch of posts about it.
That is why I’m researching bad behavior – trying to find out if it is the solution I need and whether it has any bad habits.
