After Installing WordPress – Part Two

So this is the second installment to my – After Installing WordPress Series

Moving onto the next part which is “Writing Settings”, we will look into the changes which can add to your Blogging experience on WordPress.

Wordpress Writing settings

Size of the Post Box – By default it is set to 10 lines. You can always change this option to something bigger if you are finding it to be too small for you to write blog articles.

“Convert emoticons like :-) and  :-P to graphics on display”,

Let it be checked if you like smileys to be automatically displayed.

“Wordpress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically”

It is not necessary because the WYSIWYG editor (What You See Is What You Get Editor) takes care of the validity by default. This option is known to cause a lot of problems with many WordPress plugins. I would recommend you to pass onto the next option.

Default Post Category – When you don’t choose a category while publishing a topic, by default “Uncategorized” category is chosen. You can change it to some other category which is more appropriate to your blogging needs.

Remote Publishing – If you are willing to try out different Desktop Blogging software’s then give it a try by selecting this option. Personally I haven’t used many since I liked blogging through the WordPress dashboard. I usually write in Microsoft Word and then copy/paste into the visual editor in the WordPress admin panel.

Post via e-mail – Since it is self explanatory all you need to understand is it’s just a pain for many. I do not say it because I have tried it but just my 2 cents that it is a little complicated and not feasible to the majority.

Update Services – WordPress automatically sends out pings to the popular ping services to let them know that you have added new content every time you publish an article. You should be very careful about pinging your blog because it can easily get your blog banned.

I would recommend you to use Pingomatic every time you update the blog. Use it once a day as long as you have updated your blog with some content. Additionally you can add the following list into the “Update Services” section to ping the following sites.
